Lash Extension Tips

How to prepare for your eyelash extension appointment

Prior to arriving at your appointment, we ask that you thoroughly remove any mascara and if possible come free of all eye makeup. This gives us the best opportunity to get a clean adhesion.

Eyelash extension care tips

  • Avoid getting lashes wet for 12 - 24 hours after application or a fill
(ok to get an airbrush tan)
  • Brush lashes everyday
(a brush will be provided by your lash stylist)
  • Avoid hot steam or saunas
  • Avoid sleeping on your eyelashes or rubbing your eyes/eyelashes
  • Avoid oil based eye makeup removers & oil based skin care products
  • Avoid mascaras not specifically made for eyelash extensions
(If applying mascara, do so from middle to tip-avoid the base/root area)
  • Do not perm your lashes or use a mechanical eyelash curler
  • Do not pull on your lashes as this can cause damage to your natural lashes
  • Get fills every 2-3 weeks
  • Call/text your lash stylist with any questions or concerns

Lash Extension FAQs

What are eyelash extensions?

Eyelash Extensions are single strands of synthetic fiber that are curved to replicate a natural eyelash.  A skilled technician will carefully apply an extension to an individual natural lash one by one for an enhanced and beautiful new look.  Each application of eyelash extensions are  customized to suit each individual. They are available in various  thicknesses, lengths, as well as different curls. Your stylist will be  able to talk to you about your options and ask questions to help  determine the best look for you.

Are eyelash extensions safe? Will I have a reaction to the glue?

The bonding agent is the most important  component of the eyelash application procedure, due to its impact on  the longevity of the eyelash extension.  Currently, the FDA does not  regulate the practice of eyelash extensions because the extensions are  applied to the natural eyelash and do not make contact with the skin.   However, great care must be taken when working so close to client’s  eyes.  At Rainglow, the safety of our clients is our number one  priority.  We have in place, a safety standards policy which we follow  at all times and review regularly.
This includes:
The careful  selection of the bonding agents and products we work with, sterilizing  equipment before and after each treatment, protecting the eye area with  special nonabrasive tape and eye pads and maintaining a clean and tidy  work area, free of dust and clutter.

Very  rarely do clients have a reaction to Eyelash Extension Adhesive. Glue  allergy reactions usually occur within 48 hours.  Should a reaction  occur, you will need to get ALL THE LASHES AND GLUE IMMEDIATELY REMOVED  BY YOUR LASH STYLIST.
These reactions show as:
*Inflammation of the eyelids
*Excessive redness or weeping/ watering of the eyes
*Burning that does not subside, skin scabbing on the eyelid and under the eyebrow

How often should I get touch-ups?

We recommend getting a touch-up every 2 to  3 weeks to maintain your desired look and fullness. All your natural  eyelashes are at various stages in their growth cycle. This means that  you can expect to see your eyelashes naturally shed and be replaced with  the growth of a new eyelash. When you come in for your fill any  extensions that are too far grown out or that may have fallen off  through normal wear and tear, will be replaced. Everyone's experience  will be different based on your individual cycle, your day to day  activities, skin care products, and your cleansing routines.

Can I wear mascara or use a lash curler?

Yes, but you won't need to! If you do choose to wear mascara, we
recommend using mascara which has been specially formulated to
be eyelash extension friendly.  DO NOT USE OIL-BASED OR WATER-PROOF  MASCARA.

Waterproof mascara or any type of oil based mascara can  dissolve the bonding agent and shorten the life of your eyelash  extensions causing them to fall out sooner.  Care also needs to be taken in washing off the mascara completely, and when doing so only use oil free eye makeup remover.  We do not recommend using mechanical eyelash curlers on your eyelash extensions as these curlers will damage the extensions and possibly your own natural lashes.

Can I swim, shower, exercise, spray tan or visit a spa with eyelash extensions?

Yes! The bonding agent we use is  waterproof and it allows you to shower, swim, exercise etc.  Special  care is required but overall the maintenance is low.  We do recommend  however that you do not get your new eyelash extensions wet for the first 12-24hrs after eyelash application.  (ok to get a spray tan)

Can the eyelash extensions be removed?

Yes, at any time for any reason! It is a  simple procedure that doesn't take long and we have a specially  formulated removal solution that will break down the glue and safely  remove your extensions without damaging your natural lash. Please do not  attempt to remove the lash extensions yourself as this can cause damage  to your natural lashes.

Lash lift & tint FAQs

What is a lash lift & tint?

The Lash Lift is a semi-permanent treatment that gives your natural lashes the look of perfectly curled lashes with added definition making them appear fuller and longer. It is a great alternative to eyelash extensions, as it requires very little maintenance and has long natural lasting results.

The Belmacil Lash Tint gives your lashes a long-lasting mascara effect without the hassle of smudging, running, or clumping lashes.

What is the difference between eyelash extensions and a lash lift?

The processes are quite different. With eyelash extensions we are adding extensions that will grow and fall out with your natural lash cycle. With lash lifts you won't have to worry about getting fills when the extensions start to fall out. You can also still use mascara for even more volume or length. If you're looking for some definition without the commitment to continually update your extensions, a lash lift is the perfect solution.

Who would be a great candidate for lash lift & tint?

The Lash Lift is for clients that are happy with the length and fullness of their natural lashes wanting the enhanced mascara look. Not recommended for chemotherapy clients or those who have sparse natural lash lines.  Clients with blond, red, or light brown lashes. The dye is applied to the lashes to give it a darker, enhanced mascara look.  The formula is nourishing, conditioning and formaldehyde free.

How long does the appointment & what should I avoid after?

The procedure takes approximately 45-60 minutes.

Avoid getting your lashes wet for the first 24 hours. Avoid steam rooms and saunas; overall, refrain from all heat.  Allow 24 hours before applying any type of product to your lashes. After 24 hours, you may apply mascara, eyeliner, eyeshadow, or any type of makeup products.

Serums can cause complications for lash lifts for a number of reasons. Serums can extend the growth phase of the lash, this can have some differing results on your lifts. Please do not use any serum 24 hours before and after the service.

What is the process like?

Your eyes are to remain closed during the entire process. A silicone rod (comes in S,M,L) is placed on top of the eyelids to determine which size silicone rod best suits your lashes to achieve the best lift. The lash glue (water-soluble & contains keratin) is used to push the natural lashes back onto the rod - a lash setting solution is applied then gets removed with a micro-swab and the lash neutralizer solution is applied. The tinting process will take place after the neutralizer is removed.
